Carol pushed herself up onto her hands and looked back at me, dazed. “Good God Jim, I have turned you into such a nasty boy! But I loved it. LOVED IT! I don’t think I ever came that hard, twice, so quickly. Are you okay?”
Maybe you and I do deserve to suffer for our wrongdoing. If that’s so, then it means that when things get painful, when things get difficult, we don’t have the luxury of quitting. We don’t get to end our lives to escape what we did.
