Synopsis
Ketika ekonomi global tiba-tiba berhenti, apa yang akan terjadi pada keluarga-keluarga di seluruh dunia? Synopsis (English)
When the global economy suddenly comes to a halt, what would be the effect on families worldwide? People in different countries or continents may not seem interconnected, but there is more than meets the eye. This film questions how social systems created by humans can connect people from all walks of life and classes, as well as how losing global economic stability can disrupt people's lives.
Program Note
This film explores what would happen if the world economy suddenly collapsed. The story takes place in various countries, including the Netherlands, England, America, India, China, and South Africa. It shows how interconnected people are through the threads of their daily lives, from the CEO to the janitor. This is a story about the importance of family and love, as well as the fear of loss and failure.
Director
Paula VAN DER OEST graduated from the Netherlands Film & TV Academy in 1988. Her first feature film, "The New Mother," was released in 1996, followed by "Tetie's Travel" in 1998, which premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. "Juice and Joe" (2001) was a candidate for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. She directed thrillers "Moonlight" (2002) and "Madame Jette" (2004). "The Domino Effect" is her latest work, following "Tiramisu" (2008) and "Black Butterflies" (2011).
