ERGONOMI DESAIN: AN ANALYSIS OF THE DESIGN OF SCRABBLE AND LUDO BOARDS FOR CHILDREN AGED 7-12 YEARS
Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the design of Scrabble and Ludo boards for children aged 7-12 years. The design of these games is crucial in enhancing the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children. This research employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the design of Scrabble and Ludo boards should prioritize ergonomics, aesthetics, and functionality to cater to the needs of children in this age group.
Introduction
Scrabble and Ludo are popular board games that have been enjoyed by people of all ages for decades. However, these games were initially designed with adults in mind, neglecting the specific needs and abilities of children aged 7-12 years. This age group is characterized by rapid cognitive, social, and emotional development, making it essential to design games that cater to their unique needs.
Methodology
This study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative method involved conducting semi-structured interviews with 20 children aged 7-12 years, as well as 10 educators who work with children in this age group. The quantitative method involved administering a survey to the same sample of children and educators.
Results
The results showed that the design of Scrabble and Ludo boards should prioritize ergonomics, aesthetics, and functionality. The findings also highlighted the importance of incorporating themes and colors that are appealing to children in this age group. Additionally, the results emphasized the need for games that promote social interaction, problem-solving, and creativity.
This study concludes that designing Scrabble and Ludo boards specifically for children aged 7-12 years requires a deep understanding of their cognitive, social, and emotional development. By prioritizing ergonomics, aesthetics, and functionality in game design, developers can create games that are engaging, challenging, and enjoyable for this age group.
