First Impression**
Gates of Olympus has proven to be one of Pragmatic Play's most popular releases, and at first glance Sword of Ares looks more or less the same. However, upon closer inspection, these two releases are actually not that similar, save for the way in which wins occur. In some ways, it's hard to see how Sword of Ares stacks up. For one, you have to build your way to each multiplier, which in the base game maxes out at 15x – after unlocking 100 symbols. Comparatively to Gates of Olympus, where we've seen some huge base game wins from viewers, the Sword of Ares base game feels a bit lacklustre.
Bombs and Tumbles
Bombs do go some way towards helping things out, but given that they only explode when a winning Tumble occurs, that too can feel a bit… meh. Moving into Free Spins and things get more exciting – multipliers are unlocked with a minimum of 15 symbols rather than 20 now, and these multipliers go as high as 500x. What's odd is that the game information claims the 6th multiplier is always 500x in Free Spins, and well… You can see in the screenshot above – mine wasn't. I did have the 500x, but I also had 150x, 250x, and 300x, so either I've played too early a demo release, or the final multiplier actually ranges from 150-500x.
Maths and RTP
The maths is highly volatile, and RTP at its highest is 96.40%, although settings of 95.40% and 94.44% are also available, so as always this should be checked. Overall, a great release from the team in its own right, but it's hard to say if fans of Gates of Olympus will like this – I almost think things are a little too different. The idea of having a huge multiplier in view every spin might please some, but others might prefer the random appearance more. Maybe in the end Sword of Ares is better suited to those who felt a bit more indifferent to Gates of Olympus – die hard fans might not take to this one.
Sword of Ares offers an exciting experience with its tumble feature and multiplier collection, which can award huge multipliers of up to 15x. With the potential for max wins of 10,000x bet, this game is certainly worth checking out. However, it's not necessarily a must-play for fans of Gates of Olympus, as the gameplay experience is quite different.
