Domino's New York Style Pizza: A Taste of the Big Apple in Michigan

Domino’s New York Style Pizza: A Taste of the Big Apple in Michigan

As a proud Michigander, I'm thrilled to share my experience with Domino's New York Style Pizza. Growing up in the lower "thumb" area of Michigan, I've had my fair share of pizza, and when Domino's introduced its New York Style crust, I couldn't help but feel excited. After all, Joe's Pizza, a legendary NYC institution, is just down the street from me! In this article, I'll dive into my honest review of Domino's New York Style Pizza.

The New York Style Crust: A Flatter, Less Seasoned Alternative

Domino's offers five types of pizza crusts, including their new New York Style. Ordered as-is, the X-large 16" pie came with a cheese blend of cheddar, mozzarella, and provolone, and was cut into six slices for easy folding.

Compared to Domino's regular hand-tossed crust, the New York Style crust was noticeably flatter and less seasoned looking. This lack of seasoning translated to a lack of flavor, making it rather bland and cardboard-like. The thinner nature of the crust didn't help, either. Despite the robust tomato sauce, I didn't get the robust flavor I was expecting.

Texture: Foldable, Firm, and Not Too Greasy

On the plus side, Domino's achieved the texture! The pizza folded nicely, stayed firm, and wasn't super greasy. While I didn't test it with other toppings, the foldability seemed to hold up well.

However, if we're really nitpicking here, while the texture was fine, it lacked that slight chewiness and springiness found in classic NYC crusts.

Is It Worth Trying?

If you want to switch up your crust game, go for it! Try the New York Style pizza. I won't stop you. But if you're on the fence, I don't find it worthy of replacing your go-to order.
