mishythesheep
mishythesheep The school year was coming to an end and I was busying myself with spring sports. I was doing track and field, distance events like the 1,500-meter run. I also tried my hand at pole vaulting, which did not go well. I had to quit vaulting before I really hurt myself. One particularly grueling Friday at practice, I noticed Mrs. B. in the bleachers watching. Faculty often wandered out to watch teams practice or play, but Mrs. B was rarely among them. She lingered when the practice was over, so I went over to say hi. She seemed genuinely happy to see me, even though she had been quite aloof in class or in the hallway.

“Are you okay, babe?” Daddy asked her, easing his arm in under her head, stroking her toned little belly with his hand.“I honestly have no idea,” she said, eyes still wide and slowly shaking her head. “How did this even happen.”
Her hair was done up to approximately resemble how she looked before it was tied away to make room for electrodes and surgically implanted cable ports, but the effort didn't do much to make her seem more normal. An impossible task, when she was erect at a 90 degree angle and beaming a thousand-yard stare. Eventually the photographer even gave up wiping the drool.
“But I CAN’T make up for what I’ve done, don’t you understand? I can’t bring back the people I’ve killed. I can’t heal the people I’ve hurt. I can’t undo the damage I’ve wrought. One lifetime is not enough to properly repent for my sins, so why bother living? Maybe N-N-N-N… he… should have just killed me. I don’t deserve to live for what I’ve done. He said he would take everything from me, every sensation I can enjoy, every thought and feeling that makes me who I am, my hopes and dreams. He was right, it took it all, but he let me keep me life. I wish he hadn’t. I don’t deserve it.”
