Film Review: Casino Tycoon 2

Film Review: Casino Tycoon 2

Rating: 8/10

Synopsis:

"Casino Tycoon 2" is a Hong Kong action drama film directed by Wong Jing, starring Andy Lau and Chingmy Yau. The movie is the sequel to "Casino Tycoon," which tells the story of Benny Ho, a refugee from Hong Kong who rises to become a casino tycoon in Macau.

Review:

The film focuses more on comedy, with exaggeratedly comical scenes and drama surrounding the paraplegic wife, children's "incestuous" relationships, and the attempt to murder the protagonist. The casinos are merely in the background, while the love and complicity of the protagonists shine through. What's rare in Oriental films is the abundance of sexual jokes, including the large member size of Africans.

Despite some flaws, I found this film to be light and captivating. Andy Lau returns as Benny Ho, 18 years after the first film, with his casino empire established in Macau. He lives with his daughter and wife when his daughter brings home a young man eager to make headway in his casino empire. This sparks a plot to destroy his family.

The cast is impressive, including Joey Wong, Alex Man, Michelle Reis, Remos Choi, Vivian Chan, Lau Siu-ming, Benz Hui, Sandra Ng, Calvin Choi, Edmond So, Newton Lai, John Ching, Lee Siu-kei, Kingdom Yuen, and Dennis Chan.

Overall, "Casino Tycoon 2" is a good film that balances comedy and drama well. While it may not be perfect, it's an entertaining watch with memorable performances.
