Pada tanggal 25 Desember 2006, Majalah "Official Xbox Magazine" memublikasi sebuah artikel tentang permainan video "World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions". Artikel tersebut menjabarkan tentang gameplay dan fitur-fitur yang terdapat dalam permainan ini.
Dalam artikel tersebut, dikatakan bahwa permainan ini mengambil pendekatan cerita berbasis, di mana pemain ditempatkan sebagai seorang profesional poker baru dan protege dari Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. Pemain harus menguji kemampuan mereka di acara-acara premier Circuit Events dengan harapan dapat memenuhi syarat untuk mengikuti turnamen Invitation-Only Tournament of Champions di Rio Resort, Las Vegas.
Pada permainan ini, pemain akan berhadapan dengan beberapa top pros poker, termasuk Joseph Hachem, juara World Series of Poker Main Event 2006, dan Jennifer Tilly, pemeran Academy Award-nominated yang juga memiliki gelar World Series of Poker.
