Kasino: The Unforgettable Komedian of Warkop DKI

Kasino, the iconic komedian of Warkop DKI, is a household name in Indonesia. His face, often accompanied by Dono and Indro, frequently appears on TV screens during Lebaran or school holidays. As part of the Warkop DKI group, Kasino is known for his quick wit, clever singing, and ability to bring people together with his energetic performances.

Growing up and as a teenager, Kasino was already known for his love of joking around and making his friends laugh. His childhood, teenage years, and early adult life were spent in various places such as Gombong, Bandung, Cirebon, and Jakarta, due to his father's work with the Java Railway Company (PJKA).

This nomadic lifestyle continued during his university days at the University of Indonesia, where he studied Administration at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Politics. In 1973, Kasino joined forces with Rudy Badil (a future journalist for Kompas) and Nanu Mulyono to create a radio show called "Obrolan Santai di Warung Kopi" on Radio Prambors. This marked the beginning of Warkop Prambors, which eventually evolved into Warkop DKI after Dono joined in 1974 and Indro in 1976.

Throughout their careers, Warkop DKI's humor often poked fun at politics and social issues. In his autobiography published in Vista Magazine in 1982, Kasino cited Bing Slamet and Mang Udel as his idols and inspirations. The legendary trio Los Gillos, who dominated the Indonesian comedy scene from the 1950s to the 1960s, was a major influence on him.

Not only was Kasino a master of comedy, but he was also known for his impressive singing skills. Alongside Nanu, Kasino would often create parody songs by replacing the original lyrics with humorous ones. His unique style and sense of humor have left a lasting impact on the Indonesian entertainment industry.

According to Rudy Badil's memoir, "Dari Main-Main Jadi Bukan Main," Kasino was the driving force behind Warkop DKI's success. He played multiple roles, including spokesperson, business strategist, PR representative, and negotiator for the group.

Kasino's health began to decline a year before his passing. In 1996, he suffered a fainting spell in Bandung, which led to the discovery of a brain tumor. After two surgeries at RS Advent in Bandung and RSCM in Jakarta, Kasino's condition continued to deteriorate until he passed away.

As we remember Kasino's remarkable life and career, it is clear that his legacy will continue to entertain and inspire generations to come.
